Photographic Documentation Guidelines for the Ghost Town Initiative Two types of photographic documentation are required: digital photographs of the ghost town site, and digital scans of historic photographs of the town. Digital Photography During reconnaissance, the author will document the site with digital photographs. (Use a camera shooting 7 megapixels or better.) The documentation will include 1. General views, showing the surroundings and circumstances of the site as well as the relationships among features on site. 2. Documentation of specific features of the site, covering them from various vantages and capturing significant or interesting details. 3. An accurate and complete photo log. Here’s a form for the photo log. Historic
Photographs During archival and field research, the author will locate and make note of historic photographs that document the features and life of the ghost town and enrich its narrative. Wherever possible, historic photographs should be captured through high resolution scanning and rights to their use obtained or determined. |
